Technique

Arm wrestling like any other sport takes considerable training. Both resistance training and table time are needed to excel in this sport. However resistance training is not recommended for arm wrestlers under 10 years old. At this age the focus should be on the development of technique.

The most important part of improving your arm wrestling capabilities is table time. The more time you spend on an arm wrestling table the faster you will improve. Remember that practice is where you go to improve not a place pound everyone into the table. No one gets better that way.

The following are the three most popular moves.

When practicing any of these moves it is important to set up as if you were in a tournament: wrist straight and in the centre of the table, knuckles showing and shoulders square. If you practice bad habits you take them to a tournament where you won't get away with it and you will feel very uncomfortable at the table. Also make sure when you are pinning or trying to pin to keep your other arm off the table. Grip the hand peg in a manner that allows your arm to drop off the side of the table as you pull.

There is no move which is better than the other. You need to know what your strengths and weakness are and pick a move that works for you. Once you get that move down start working on the other moves. To be a complete arm wrestler you must be able to perform all of the moves.
